Please note: All of the sites listed here offer free lessons & activities. Some do require you to register, but do not charge a fee to do so. Some also have additional "premium content" that does require a paid subscription. It is up to you to decide whether you feel that content would be worth the price.


www.homeschoolingadventures.com - lots of worksheets and printables, covering preschool through 12th grade.

www.learningpage.com - requires registration, but does offer free teaching materials for younger elementary grades.

www.internet4classrooms.com - free links broken down by subject matter, for grades K - 8.

www.nrrf.org/readtest.html - a free, quick reading test to determine child's reading level.

www.starfall.com - a free Learn-to-Read site with on-line programs and downloadable printouts.

www.donpotter.net/reading - this page is a little difficult on the eyes but it does contain many links to free phonics and reading programs, both on-line and downloadable.

www.sfreading.com - very nice, free grammar and writing workbooks in colorful .pdf form for grades 1 - 6.

www.rhlschool.com - English/grammar printable worksheets.

High School American Lit - excellent, organized site for teaching American Literature to upper grades.

KISS Grammar - free on-line and printable grammar course.

www.creativewritingprompts.com - hundreds of free writing prompts.

www.handwritingworksheets.com - print custom handwriting worksheets in basic print, D'Nealian, and cursive.

Free Online Spelling Curriculum - created for Middle Schoolers.

www.gutenberg.org - Project Gutenberg, thousands and thousands of free eBooks, including many classics.

www.mainlesson.com - The Baldwin On-line Children's Literature Project, has many books just for kids and allows you to set your preference for page display, making it easier on the eyes than many other e-book sites. (Note - they sell hard copies of the texts, but if you use the menu on the left-hand of the screen, you can access everything for free.)

www.bookadventure.com - a free site dedicated to sparking an interest in reading.

www.bookmooch.com - give away books you no longer want; get free books in return.

The Internet Public Library - great on-line reference tools, including sections just for kids and teens.

Merriam-Webster Online - dictionary and thesaurus, also includes a nice "Spelling Bee" section.
